“This activity is gang-related: 1 person died, 1 critically injured after a shooting in Brevard County, deputies say.

BREWARD COUNTY, Florida. – One person was killed and another injured in a shooting in unincorporated Melbourne Beach, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they received a call to 911 around 6:30 p.m. about a man who was shot dead in Spessard Holland Park. The injured man was found, he was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

According to the press release, when the MPs reacted, they collided with a car on the Melbourne Seawall with passengers who stopped them. Deputies said they found a man in the car who had been shot and declared dead.

In a video posted to Facebook, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the truck fled the scene and Palm Bay and Melbourne police were able to stop the vehicle. According to Ivey, the occupiers fled, but the police managed to detain two people.

“From everything that our investigation showed us, all this activity is related to the gang,” Sheriff Ivey said.

Officials from the Homicide and Crime Investigation Unit are reportedly questioning potential witnesses and gathering evidence to ascertain the circumstances of the shooting.
