The Temple University officer killed in Saturday night’s shooting is the son of former Fort Worth Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald, according to the Fort Worth Police Association.

Officer Christopher Fitzgerald was trying to intervene in a car theft when he was shot dead. He later died from his injuries in the hospital.

According to an affidavit obtained by FOX 29, the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Miles Pfeffer, was seen on CCTV firing a handgun at an officer after a chase and a brief struggle.

CONNECTED: The 18-year-old suspect will be charged with the murder of a Temple University officer, the district attorney said.

He was later arrested and is awaiting multiple charges, including murder of a law enforcement officer, robbery and auto theft, according to the district attorney’s office.

The affidavit alleges that as Fitzgerald fell to the ground, the suspect “stands over him and fired several more shots to the face and head.”
