The teenager was out on bail when he instigated a lockdown at a Houston high school last week, court documents say.

According to court records, Mahamudu Silla was arrested in 2022 after he and three other teenagers robbed a group at gunpoint outside a mall on Bellaire Boulevard.

HOUSTON. One of the teenagers arrested in connection with an armed robbery and lockdown at a Houston high school was in trouble prior to last week’s incident, according to court documents.

Mahamudu Silla, 18, was on bail when he was arrested on the school campus on Thursday, authorities said. Houston Police Department investigators said Cilla was a robbery suspect who enrolled at Wisdom High School and made a chaotic scene in the school auditorium.

Houston police said they were watching a “very violent group of people” as they robbed and shot a man at an apartment complex on Westheimer Road near Hillcroft Avenue around noon Thursday. According to police, when they approached the group, one of them pointed a gun at the officer.

Officer R. Aguilar once shot 18-year-old John Nsengouwer, police said. He was taken to an area hospital with injuries that police said were not life-threatening. The officers were not hurt. 17-year-old Mohamed Rashid Robinson was detained at the scene.

According to police, Silla managed to escape and was driven to school by a random driver. According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, the driver simply “thought he was taking the kid back to school” without knowing that Silla was involved in the police incident.

When Silla returned to school, the administrator let him in and he went to the front desk, where he used his school ID to be scanned. Silla then went to an auditorium with at least 100 students, police said. The school was closed as soon as they found out he was on campus.

Some time later, Silla was taken into custody. Silla faces two charges of aggravated robbery, both felonies, and a charge of robbery with a threat. Police said Nsenguwera and Robinson were also charged with the officer’s shooting. Nsenguwere was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer. Robinson was charged with robbery by threat.

According to court records, Silla was arrested in August 2022 after he and three other teenagers robbed a group at gunpoint near a mall on Bellaire Boulevard. The documents say they also stole a car from someone nearby. Silla was charged with aggravated theft of a deadly weapon but is currently on bail.

The teens charged in the 2022 case were different from those charged with the robbery and shooting last week, police said.
