The remains found in Montgomery County are confirmed to be those of Felicia Johnson.

The 24-year-old San Diego woman disappeared while on a trip to Houston last April. The man accused of her murder is still on the run.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas Human remains found in the Sam Houston National Forest earlier this month, it was confirmed to be Felicia Johnson. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and JP Wayne Mac.

The search for the suspect in her murder continues.

Johnson, 24, was from San Diego and disappeared during a trip to Houston in April 2022. Her father said the jewels found among the remains on February 7 belonged to his daughter.

According to the sheriff’s office, they were sent for DNA testing and dental records.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that dental records have confirmed that the human remains belong to the missing Felicia Johnson of California,” the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to Johnson’s family and friends and we hope this brings them some closure.”

Felicia’s father, Kevin Johnson, says he received a call from the Houston police and was told the remains were found to be those of his daughter.

“He wouldn’t call me. They wouldn’t have notified me if they didn’t think it was her,” Kevin said. “I believe it is her.

It comes after Montgomery County Magistrate Wayne Mack said a TxDOT worker had found possible skeletal remains in the Sam Houston National Forest.

“She had jewelry on her body,” Kevin said. “We’re just waiting for dental records to be 100 percent.”

Pieces of tape from the crime scene were left at the scene, reminding neighbors of what was found.

“I just saw a bunch of ambulances, most of them were unmarked,” said neighbor Cathy Francis. “It’s a little creepy.”

She lives on the edge of the Sam Houston National Forest.

“Sometimes there are trash bags where people throw things like that, but it’s probably been 30 to 40 years since we heard they found someone else in there,” Francis said.

next two daysHPD said receipts show Nwobodo took out money and purchased supplies. His Internet searches included words such as “the most wooded part of Houston”.

may 13, detectives obtained a warrant to search his car and apartment. Investigators found “very strong evidence” of Johnson’s DNA in his apartment and a gun, knife and shovel in his car. Nwobodo was detained during a traffic stop but released without charge, but police seized his mobile phone.
