The mansion was built on piles 20 meters high for the first time in 20 years.

This house is not for the faint of heart.
A Los Angeles mansion built on 60-foot caissons on the iconic Mulholland Drive is up for sale for $16 million.
The three-bedroom, three-bath home known as the Garcia House was last sold by actor Vincent Gallo in 2002 for $1.2 million.
The longtime owners are William Damaschke, former president of animation and family entertainment at Skydance Media, and John McIlvey, a top executive in the Hollywood business.
Built in 1962, the house was designed by world-renowned architect John Lautner and has since been considered a “cult masterpiece”.
The Wall Street Journal first reported on the listing this month.
The pilings elevate the home for optimal views of the canyon and city, and it has undergone a number of historic restorations over the years.

Damaschke and McIlvey invested another $1 million in renovations and added a fence to obscure the public view from the street to the transparent glass-walled portion of the house.
Features include a lava entrance, original terrazzo flooring and a parabolic roof with 55-foot walls of windows, the listing says.
Covering approximately 2,600 square feet, the home also features a green garden and swimming pool, which was added to the structure in 2008 using Lautner’s original design.
The house is also called the “Rainbow House” because of its roof that rests on top of stained glass windows and a 30-foot-tall curved ceiling.
The house was originally designed for Russell Garcia, an American composer who wrote a wide variety of music.
The listing is by Aaron Kirman of AKGRE Inc.
