The Justice Department tells senators it is “working” to get information about classified documents found at the Biden and Trump homes.

Lawmakers from both parties are frustrated at being kept in the dark about the contents of classified documents found in both President Biden’s home and former President Donald Trump’s, but the Justice Department says it’s trying to give them something.

A letter sent Saturday to Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner, Va., and Vice Chairman, Sen. Marco Rubio, Fla., and Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte, said the Justice Department is working to get at least some information for them. .

“We are working with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to support the provision of information that will satisfy the Committee’s responsibilities without prejudice to the Special Counsel’s ongoing investigations,” Uriarte wrote.

Meanwhile, Warner and Rubio continued to call for them to see the documents for themselves. Both men appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday to discuss the matter.

“Probably these are materials that we already have access to, we just don’t know which ones,” Rubio said.
And it’s not about curiosity, you know, that’s the point: if in fact those documents were very secret, the materials were classified, and they pose a counterintelligence or national security threat to the United States, then the intelligence agencies are tasked with coming up with ways to mitigate this.

“We have the right not only as members of the Intelligence Committee, but also as part of the leadership to view almost every secret document,” Warner said. “But we have a problem in terms of both levels of classification, how high-ranking elected officials leave the government, how they handle documents. We’ve had too many examples of that.”

LAW PROFESSOR JONATHAN TURLEY SAYS BIDEN SHOULD RELEASE ‘BAN ON PUBLIC ACCESS TO DELAWARE DOCUMENTS’

The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee have gone so far as to threaten to use their position to withhold resources from the intelligence services if they do not comply.

“There are things that we have to do as a committee every year to allow funds to move,” Rubio said. “I think the director of national intelligence and other intelligence leaders are aware of this. At some point, I’d rather they just call us this morning, or tomorrow, or whatever time it is and say, “Look, this is an arrangement we think we can reach so the wardens can access it” . I’d rather not go that route, but it’s one of the leverage we have as Congress.”

Warner said they “will find a way to make sure we get that access so that we can not only tell the American people, but also get 85 more U.S. senators who are not on the intelligence committee who are waiting for us to get those assurances.” “.
