The FBI searched Biden’s house and found documents marked “secret”

WASHINGTON. On Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided President Joe Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, and found six classified documents and some of his notes, the president’s lawyer said Saturday.

Bob Bauer, the president’s personal lawyer, said the search of the entire premises lasted nearly 13 hours. Classification documents cover Biden’s Senate and Vice Presidential tenures, while the Notes cover Biden’s tenure as Vice President. The search comes more than a week after Biden’s lawyers found six other classified documents in the president’s home library when he was vice president, and nearly three months after lawyers found a small number of classified documents in his former Pennsylvania offices. President and First Lady Jill Biden were not at the house at the time of the search. They spend the weekend at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Bauer said the FBI asked the White House not to comment on the search before it took place. He said the FBI “had full access to the president’s home, including personal handwritten notes, files, documents, folders, memorabilia, to-do lists, schedules, and decades-long reminders.”

He added that the Justice Department “has taken possession of materials that it believes are within the scope of its investigation, including six items consisting of classified documents and related materials, some of which were from the president’s service in the Senate, and some of which have been since his tenure as Vice President.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed former U.S. Attorney for Maryland Robert Hoore as special counsel to investigate any potential wrongdoing related to the Biden documents.

“From the very beginning, the president has been keen to approach this responsibly because he takes it seriously,” White House attorney Richard Sauber said Saturday. “Presidential Counsel and the White House Counsel’s Office will continue to work with the Department of Justice and the Special Counsel to ensure that this process is carried out quickly and efficiently.”
