The Evidence Room launch, Change of address mail fraud, Medicare open enrollment warning

It’s the week our team has been waiting for!!! The KPRC2 Investigates docuseries The Evidence Room launched on Wednesday. We take you inside the county archive of criminal exhibits in some of Houston’s most notorious cases and introduce you to the woman responsible for maintaining thousands of boxes. Inside each box, there are exhibits like confession tapes, crime scene photographs and even the murder weapons themselves.

The Evidence Room

Thousands of boxes live in the Harris County criminal exhibits archive. But each boxes contains the story of innocent people, violent criminals and how their lives were forever altered. These are the criminal cases you think you know, but you’ve never seen them quite like this. This week, we introduce you to the woman in charge of the exhibits archive.

It’s been a HUGE team project headed up by Executive Producer Ana Lastra, along with reporter Robert Arnold, producers Andrea Slaydon and Jason Nguyen, photojournalist Jon Hill, Adrian Montes and Bill Carruthers (who also put it all together.) Now thieves are changing mail addresses

Experiencing problems with your mail? Thieves are now running a change-of-address scheme. Joel Eisenbaum met with one woman who stopped getting mail and then realized someone filled out a “change of address” form and started getting her mail. She’s had a hard time trying to fix the problem and we are helping out.

New Airport Director investigation?

KPRC2 Investigates Mario Diaz has an update on a case he’s been following since last year. The Houston city controller asked the Office of the Inspector General to investigate the airports system’s director over $760,000 in fines waived for concessionaires. Mario explains why this is important for the people of Houston.


Medicare fraud warnings

Medicare open enrollment starts tomorrow but be wary of thieves using this time to target people. If you’re not on Medicare, you probably have an aging loved one who is, so keep an eye out for the warning signs. Amy Davis has a few tricks would-be scammers may use to try and get your information.

Amy also did a story this week on 4 ways to save money on Medicare costs.
