“The Biggest Picnic in Texas” in honor of the grand opening of the Land Bridge and Prairie Memorial Park.

The community is invited to come and experience the new 100-acre space at a free event running from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

HOUSTON — Memorial Park is hosting the “Biggest Picnic in Texas” in honor of the official grand opening of the Kinder Land Bridge and Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Prairie on Saturday.

The community is invited to come and experience the new 100-acre space at a free event running from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The family celebration will feature picnic baskets full of products provided by HEB (free while stocks last) and additional food and drinks for purchase; live music; body art and face painting; self-guided tours of the Land Bridge and Prairie project and much more.

According to the organizer, all ages can immerse themselves in the exploration of the prairies by collecting stamps in the personal passport booklet for a chance to earn special prizes as part of the Great Prairie Adventure.

The interactive experience aims to provide visitors with the opportunity to learn about the largest urban prairie restoration in Texas and the importance of the prairie in the cultural and ecological history of the Gulf Coast.

The Land Bridge and Prairie project is part of the Memorial Park master plan.

What you need to know before you go

The last entrance to the event is at 16:00. The shuttle leaves at 9:45. The last shuttle leaves at 16:00. The last transfer leaves at 18:00. The shuttle departs and drops off at Lot H, 1643 Memorial. DOCTOR There’s paid parking.

  • W Loop N @ Woodway Drive – 12 min walk
  • N Post Oak Ln @ Woodway Drive – 16 min walk

  • 84 Northwest Transit Center – heading north
  • 47 Northwest Transit Center – heading north

This event is free and open to everyone. Guests are invited to “BYOP” (Bring Your Own Picnic – no glass container).

Picnic baskets of products courtesy of HEB will be available free of charge while supplies last. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase on site from a variety of food trucks.

The following items are prohibited in the park:

  • No glass container
  • No pets other than service animals
  • No Bicycles. Please attach your bikes to the racks at the gates at the entrance to the event.
  • No scooters, skateboards or other similar devices.
  • No drones, remote controlled aircraft or other similar devices.
  • No smoking
  • No picnics at the Great Prairie Adventure Zone.
  • Prohibition on the sale or marketing of third party products, services or entities
  • No tents, deckchairs or deckchairs
  • Strollers and trailers must be collapsible (if they ride minibuses)
  • Stay on the marked paths
