The armed citizen who shot the armed intruder at the military base is the wife of a high-ranking non-commissioned officer of the Air Force.

The husband of a senior non-commissioned officer of the Air Force fired a warning shot and scared off an intruder who entered the military base with a weapon this week.

“We appreciate the outpouring of support we have received since this incident,” Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Joanne Bass said in a press release. “I can confirm that my husband Ran was involved and is safe thanks to the quick response and professionalism of our security force airmen.”

Initial reports only noted that the intruder had been fired upon by a resident of the base, but it was not until later that week that Ran Bass, a retired Army First Sergeant, was identified as a resident. The attacker remains unidentified.

On Monday, the man infiltrated Joint Base Andrews in suburban Washington and reached a residential area around 11:30 a.m.

Ran Bass shot the intruder, which stopped him until base security and law enforcement apprehended the man.

“A resident fired a firearm, security forces arrived at the scene to apprehend the attacker, and law enforcement is investigating the incident,” Joint Andrews Air Force Base said in a statement emailed to Fox News Digital. “No injuries or property damage reported.”

CMS Joanne Bass is the highest-ranking member of the US Air Force and is tasked with overseeing the morale and well-being of over 600,000 airmen, including 263,000 on active duty. Bass, the 19th person in that rank, who advises the Air Force Chief of Staff, is the first woman to fill the role.

There have been several infractions at the base over the past two years, including a man who gained access in February 2021 and gained access to a C-40 before he was caught.

At the base, which hosts a fleet of blue and white presidential jets, three points of security breach were identified during this incident: “human error” by a security guard at the gate, a breach in the fence designed to restrict access to the flight line, and open access allowing an intruder get in and out of a parked plane.

Perhaps the most egregious incident occurred in March 2022, when a 17-year-old man with a gun drove into the base, ignoring the command to stop at the main gate.
