A prescribed fire broke out at the wildlife sanctuary, according to BCEM officials.
BREWARD COUNTY, Florida. Huge plumes of smoke could be seen near Merritt Island on Tuesday after a 1,900-acre prescribed fire was carried out at a nearby wildlife sanctuary, according to the Brevard County Office of Emergency Management.
BCEM said on social media that the fire originated at the Merritt Island Wildlife Sanctuary.
Large plumes of smoke were visible in the air over Merritt Island as a result of the fire.
