Texas woman arrested for trying to sell a rented car at a reduced price

A Texas woman was arrested over the weekend on charges of trying to sell her rented car for $10,000.

The Humble Police Department posted the incident on Facebook Sunday, saying the officer was pulled over by a citizen who said he was trying to buy a car he found online but believed it was stolen.

It was a 2022 Toyota Camry, and the seller, who was not named by police, was trying to sell an almost new car for about half its price.

Police said the seller agreed to meet with the buyer later to finalize the deal and take pictures of their Texas driver’s license and ownership of the car.

The buyer told the police that he thought the license was invalid and the police said he was right.

“When checking the information from the license, it was found that nothing matches,” the police said.

The officers used the VIN from the fake vehicle and contacted the owner of the Camry, who said the car was on loan, not for sale.

Cooperating with the police, the buyer agreed to meet with the citizen after agreeing on a price of $10,000.

When they met, the police arrested the woman and charged her with third-degree car theft and second-degree tampering, which is a felony.
