Texas leads the way in spreading white supremacist propaganda, ADL report shows

Incidents of white supremacist propaganda and events spread to an all-time high in the United States in 2022.

HOUSTON. White supremacist propaganda and events across the country are on the rise, according to the Anti-Defamation League’s annual report.

In 2022, there were 6751 incidents, which is 38% more than in 2021.

Texas suffered the most. In 2022, 527 cases of propaganda were registered, which is 61% more than in 2021.

“We are disappointed and dismayed that Texas tops the list,” said Mark B. Toobin, ADL Southwest Regional Director. “Over the past year and a half, many in our region have reported white supremacist propaganda scattered overnight across their lawn or driveway in plastic bags filled with rocks. In response, all Texans should oppose and speak out against these bullying efforts. undisguised manifestation of anti-Semitism and hatred.”

Propaganda has been reported in every state except Hawaii, according to the ADL. In addition to Texas (from most active to least active), Massachusetts, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Utah, Florida, Connecticut and Georgia also saw high levels of activity, according to the report.

According to the ADL, three white supremacist groups: the Patriot Front, the Goyim Defense League (GDL), and White Lives Matter (WLM) are responsible for 93% of the activity.

Key Findings from the 2022 ADL report (taken from report) include:

  • White supremacist groups increasingly used banners, often hung over overpasses, to promote their hatred. ADL recorded at least 252 banner drops, up 38% from the 183 recorded in 2021.
  • The ADL has documented 167 white supremacist events, up 55% from the 108 recorded in 2021. The events took place in 33 states, with the most activity (from most to least active) in Massachusetts, California, Ohio and Florida. The White Lives Matter Network was responsible for 43% of these events.
  • The ADL recorded 219 incidents of white supremacist propaganda spread on campuses, down 6% from 2021 and the lowest since the ADL began tracking in 2017. -12 campuses.
  • Advocacy on campus was recorded in 39 states, with the highest levels of activity (from most active to least active) in Texas, Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Ohio, Illinois, and Michigan.
