Texas bystander with ‘license to carry’ shot and killed shooter at El Paso mall as he targeted more potential victims: police

El Paso, Texas police say a bystander with a “license to carry” shot and killed the alleged shooter, who is accused of killing one person and injuring three others.

The suspect, a 16-year-old Hispanic, is accused of shooting people after a “confrontation” between the two groups at the Cielo Vista Mall Wednesday night at 5:05 pm.

The El Paso Police Department said the confrontation eventually escalated into a “physical fight” and the 16-year-old drew a gun, fatally injuring 17-year-old Angeles Zaragoza and injuring another 17-year-old and a 15-year-old. .

Police say Emanuel Duran, 32, who is licensed to carry a gun, shot the suspect when he pointed his gun at other bystanders.

“As soon as the shooting ended, the 16-year-old suspect ran and pointed his gun at bystanders, including 32-year-old Emanuel Duran, a gun license holder. When the suspect ran towards Duran and passers-by, Duran pulled out a gun and fired at the suspect, Duran said.

Duran is also believed to be a victim of the shooting.

An El Paso police officer on duty then arrived on the scene and, along with Duran, treated the suspect and other victims.

Investigators found that there were “at least” two other people who were legally armed but did not participate in the shooting.

The 16-year-old suspect is in stable condition.
