Team Behind San Diego’s Madison On Park To Open New Pizzeria In University Heights

January 2, 2023

The team behind Madison on Park has taken over a neighboring space in San Diego’s University Heights for the opening of a new wood-fired pizza and Amaro Italian herbal liqueur-centered concept set to open later this year.

In early 2016, Madison unveiled in the former Lei Lounge space in San Diego’s University Heights. A collaboration between experienced San Diego industry insiders, Madison is owned by Jeffrey Fink, a longtime attorney who also long-operated M-Theory Music and FLUXX nightclub, and General Manager Matt Sieve, formerly of Isabel’s Cantina and a third generation restaurateur. In its six year tenure, Madison has won numerous awards, including several design acknowledgements. In 2022, the Madison team took over the 2,058 square-foot Normal Heights building that last housed controversial-from-the-start South American restaurant Pachamama for the opening of Madi, a brunch-centric, globally-inspired eatery.

The Madison on Park crew has partnered with Sicilian-born chef Francesco Bonsinetto and marketing expert Adisa Ziric, who also operate catering & event business Cucina Migrante, for the opening of a new pizza-based concept. Set to open as early as this summer in the 3,500-square-foot space currently housing Summer’s Liquor & Market located a stone throw from Madison on Park, the yet-to-be-named restaurant will have a menu of Neapolitan style, wood-fired pizza, as well as Italian-inspired appetizers and entrees. From the bar, expect a devotion to Italian liquors, especially Amaro, an Italian herbal liqueur that is commonly consumed as an after-dinner digestif.

The new Madison on Park pizza concept will open as early as summer 2023 at 1728 Madison Avenue in San Diego’s University Heights community.
