Suspected Thief Apprehended for Robberies at Berkeley and Emeryville Apple Stores

A man suspected of multiple thefts at Apple Stores in Berkeley and Emeryville has been apprehended by law enforcement officials. Tyler Mims, a 22-year-old resident of Berkeley, was arrested on Wednesday alongside two accomplices by a joint task force consisting of officers from both cities and the California Highway Patrol. Emeryville police reported on Thursday that Mims faces several charges, including conspiracy, burglary, grand theft, and organized retail theft, as a result of his illicit activities.

The most recent incident involved Mims allegedly pilfering phones from the Berkeley Apple Store, leading to his subsequent arrest. However, this was not an isolated event. Authorities suspect Mims of stealing a staggering 50 iPhones, with a combined value exceeding $49,000, from the Emeryville store on Monday morning, marking the fourth occurrence of theft at the same establishment since January 19, according to local law enforcement.

Following his arrest, Mims was taken into custody in Oakland and is currently being held on an $810,000 bail. His arraignment has been scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m. and will take place at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland. This legal proceeding will determine the course of action regarding the charges levied against him.

The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies from both cities, along with the California Highway Patrol, have resulted in the apprehension of the suspect. The subsequent legal proceedings will determine the extent of Mims’ involvement in these crimes and the appropriate measures to be taken to safeguard these retail establishments.
