Florida’s 2024 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday: Essential Details

The 2024 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is set to commence on Monday and will extend until Sunday, January 14, marking the first time a holiday of this nature has been established to kickstart the new year. Differing from its predecessor, which ran from July 24 to August 6, this holiday period offers an exemption from tax on qualifying items.

During this tax-free interval, a range of items will be exempt from tax, including clothing, footwear, and certain accessories, provided that their sales price does not exceed $100 per item. Additionally, certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item, as well as learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less, will also fall under the tax exemption. Moreover, personal computers and specific computer-related accessories, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use and with a sales price not surpassing $1,500, will also be eligible for the tax exemption.

However, it is important to note that this holiday does not apply to certain items. For instance, any item of clothing with a sales price exceeding $100, and any school supply item with a sales price surpassing $50, will not be eligible for the tax exemption. Furthermore, books that are not otherwise exempt, and computers and computer-related accessories with a sales price exceeding $1,500, will also not fall under the tax exemption. Additionally, computers and computer-related accessories purchased for commercial purposes, rentals of any eligible items, repairs or alterations of any eligible items, as well as sales of any eligible items within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport, will not be exempt from tax.
