Supporters head to DC demanding justice for Shankwella Robinson and calling for a “high level of diplomatic intervention” from the US.

Robinson died in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico while on a road trip with a group of six friends on October 29, 2022.

CHARLOTT, North Carolina. People went to the capital of our country on Friday in support of Shanquella Robinson.

On Friday morning, the Robinson family, as well as activists and supporters, stood in front of Ben Crump’s Washington, D.C. law office and demanded a “high level of diplomatic intervention” from the United States.

“The Mexican authorities have confirmed that they have completed their investigation, we were able to review some of these packages, and they were sent … and the ball is clearly on the side of the United States,” Sue-Ann Robinson, the Robinson family lawyer said.

Robinson died in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico while on a road trip with a group of six friends on October 29, 2022. Her family said friends claimed it was due to alcohol poisoning.

The Mexican authorities made it clear that this was not an accident, but a direct attack on Robinson.

Despite various versions of what happened to Robinson, the death certificate states that she died 15 minutes after breaking her neck and severe spinal cord injury.

Mexican authorities said in November 2022 that they had an arrest warrant for an unnamed woman who traveled with Robinson, charging the woman with femicide. This became known after a disturbing video appeared on the network.

Robinson’s own father confirmed that it showed her being beaten, probably somewhere along the trip.

“There was no fight in this house,” prominent activist Tamika Mallory said. “There was an attack on one person.”

Her family and friends are now calling for justice in Washington, lobbying lawmakers on her behalf.

“This is not a difficult question: either extradite the killer or take jurisdiction so you can bring the killer to justice. It’s simple,” said Attorney Ben Crump. “We are asking for a ‘high level of diplomatic intervention’ from the President of the United States and the Department of Justice to do whatever is necessary to bring to justice the person and people responsible for her murder.”

Family lawyer Sue Ann Robinson traveled to Mexico herself and calls for unfair treatment of black women in these cases.

“Go to the police station, go to the attorney general’s office, go to the Mexican Red Cross, go to the doctor’s office and go to the real villa where she spent her last moment,” Robinson said. “Trying to find answers for this family was really unrealistic, no one should have been doing this for the sake of something equal and fair.”

“Forget she’s a black woman – she’s a woman and a citizen of the United States, and we know what you can do,” Mallory said. “Let me tell you how we know what you can do because we’ve seen you do it before. When Natalie Holloway went missing in Aruba, America stopped and froze … Natalie Holloway was in our homes every day, and she should have been, and Shankwell Robinson should have been too.”

According to them, the ball is on the side of the US government, while the Robinsons are waiting for justice.

“No one has been arrested and the people who knew what happened to my daughter are living their lives, they are back to work, and my family is left to wait and ask for answers,” Shankwella’s mother Salamondra Robinson said.

They say it’s important to keep her name in the public conversation as they continue to fight to bring those responsible for Shankwella’s death to justice.
