Sunday school and church services play a big part in the life of former President Jimmy Carter.

Plains, Georgia Plains, Georgia. Ian Williams attended Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia for decades with former President Jimmy Carter.

When Carter began teaching Sunday School every week, Williams noticed that the church was getting more and more people.

“We saw a lot of people going to come,” Williams said. “And we started getting more and more every Sunday.”

So many people began to come that visitors had to come the day before the service reserve your seats.

“People had to come here on a Saturday afternoon, get a number, go back to the parking lot, couldn’t leave, and then spent the night in their car,” Williams said.

Williams emphasized that the church huge priority for President Carter.

He did his best to be there every Sunday and spread the word.

“He always made sure to plan trips outside of the Plains during the week to return on the weekends,” Williams said. “To be here at his church service.”
