Student response to beautification efforts

Different opinions of students regarding the dismantling of the old pool

John Forkey, Associate Biology Specialist

“Tennis court, pickleball court seems great, although we can definitely use another basketball court. I wonder how much use a tennis court will get, but it’s definitely better than a pool.”

Sam Holmquist, Junior Major in Politics

“I still like the idea of having a pool, so I think they should probably look elsewhere. But I think the marinade is going to be a lot of fun, and we also have a tennis club, so that makes sense.”

Fred Thrun, Sophomore, Business Specialist

“[A sport court] actually it would be a lot of fun, I’ve wanted to play tennis for a long time. My roommate is also on the tennis team, so I thought it would be a great time to socialize.” Thrun is also looking forward to meeting his brother, who also plays tennis.

Isabella Flynn, Senior Major in Politics

“I’m looking forward to more use of space on campus, I really don’t think people used the pool that much,” she said. “It wasn’t quite [well] stored. It’s kind of rude, really.” Flynn is excited about the new location on campus, which promotes “conviviality”.

Luke Iacoviello, freshman business specialist

“Personally, I am not a big fan of tennis, I was somewhat disappointed when the pool was removed,” he said. Jacobiello would like to see another pool somewhere else on campus. “It would be nice to be able to, I definitely won’t be using the tennis court.”

John Michalak, sophomore, business professional

“Although I really miss the pool because it was great in the summer, I think it would be great to have a tennis court there. It would definitely be better than leaving things as they are, so I’m all for this plan.”

Annie Bui, freshman majoring in business and accounting

“I’ve never heard of anyone actually using [the pool],” she said. “I think replacing it with something that people use more often would be more beneficial for both the school and the students. I know I’ve heard people say, ‘Oh, don’t I can believe they are getting rid of the pool I was going to use it” but I’ve never heard of anyone using it so I don’t know if it’s just people reacting to the change or if they’re really upset about it but personally I’m pretty I’m neutral on this because I didn’t plan to use the pool and I didn’t plan to use the tennis court, but hopefully more students enjoy the tennis court.”
