South Carolina Man Convicted of Murder in Middlesex County

New Brunswick, September 14, 2023 – In a landmark verdict delivered by a jury on September 12, 2023, Marcus A. Wright, a 27-year-old man from South Carolina, was found guilty of the killing of John Bertram in the Township of Edison on December 20, 2018. The conviction came after a week-long trial that commenced on September 5, 2023, before Superior Court Judge Andrea Carter.

The tragic incident unfolded when Mr. Bertram, an employee at the Speedway Gas Station on Amboy Avenue in Edison, was shot and killed. The assailant, Marcus Wright, was later apprehended in Beaufort, South Carolina, on January 3, 2019, and charged with the murder of Mr. Bertram.
