Some East Bay residents enjoy another snowy day, others endure stormy weather

Bay Area residents faced another rainy and windy day on Tuesday, and a split is brewing.

Some get tired of the wild weather while others say “keep on”.

“The snow started on Thursday night, we had quite a bit of snow overnight at this point on Friday morning,” said Park Enforcement Officer Cameron Morrison.

He has been working on Mount Diablo since 2001 and said he has never seen so much snow on the mountain. A total of 16-18 inches have dropped so far.

“Many photographs were taken. Many people had a great time and left many wonderful memories,” said Morrison.

The summit is closed to traffic, but Ben Gromik and his son Samuel walked 2 miles. They say every little thing was worth it.

“I think it’s absolutely beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. In general, I love inclement weather, so seeing something like this is definitely a memory for a lifetime,” said Samuel Gromyk.

Others climbed up with their snowboards, saying they definitely had good turns.

“Dude, we just had to take a chance and go out and see how it was, and it was worth it for sure,” said Simeon Kirov.

“This is insane, I have never seen anything like it. I remember when I was little, I climbed here, there was very little ice right at the top, ”said Adrian Todorov. “It’s just crazy for me.”

The rest of Contra Costa County had more rain on Tuesday, with slippery conditions meaning wing turns and kinks. A giant rain-filled pothole on Interstate 680 has become a nightmare for drivers as about a dozen cars ended up with flat tires.

“I just followed the guy ahead of me and boom… I hit a pothole, I was the second person, and then about an hour ago I pulled over with the apartment and the cars keep coming in with the apartment, same thing,” the driver said.

People are accepting the bad along with the good as winter continues to bring surprises.
