KILLEEN, Texas – The tragic death of a Fort Cavazos soldier, who fell victim to a hit-and-run incident in Killeen, has left the city in shock. The authorities are calling for the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible for the fatal accident.

According to sources, the accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 11th when Staff Sgt. Eric Rucker, along with another motorcyclist, stopped to pick up a lost item from his motorcycle. During this time, the alleged hit-and-run driver rammed into Rucker, causing significant physical trauma. The driver, who was reportedly driving a smaller gray sedan, then drove away from the scene of the accident.

The Killeen Police Department are on the lookout for the driver responsible, who may have fled the scene with damage to the front end and windshield of the vehicle. Given these details, the authorities urge anyone with information concerning the identity of the driver to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Rucker, aged 29, joined the Army as an infantryman in March 2015 and was assigned to Fort Cavazos since January 2019. His colleagues describe him as a particularly valued member of the team whose presence within the army will be deeply missed. Lt. Col. Wellock, the commander of the 2-7 Cavalry Battalion, commented on the matter, stating that \”2-7 CAV is deeply saddened by the loss of Staff Sgt. Rucker. He will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue through the outstanding performance of the Troopers he led in the Ghost Battalion. We extend our deepest condolences to Staff Sgt. Rucker’s family, his loved ones, and his friends\”.
