A Smith County constable saved the life of a cute four-legged friend over the weekend.

On Sunday, Smith County County. 4 Constable Josh Joplin received a call from a concerned citizen about a dog on the side of the road in the Horseshoe Club Lake area with only a blanket.

“He was very sweet, but shy and very hungry,” Constable Joplin said.

Once he and the citizen had established a trusting relationship with the puppy, they were able to load him into PC Joplin’s patrol team.

“I don’t know if he was thrown out or if he went missing,” Constable Joplin said. “In any case, owners can contact me for more information should they wish to return their dog.”

The Humane Society of East Texas provided shelter and care for the dog.

“I just dropped him off and when I left he was eating like a champ,” Constable Joplin said. “Thank God for our wonderful citizens and many thanks to the SPCA. [of East Texas] for meeting me on Sunday.”
