Six teenagers were taken from a shelter after one of them called a podcast with a terrifying story

Chaim Cohen presented the world with an image of a joyful, if unconventional, Texas family in which a single man takes nine adopted sons and raises them in a family filled with Jewish traditions.

The new allegations paint this picture as a façade hiding a disturbing story.

“It was a family of boys who were abused and neglected, cared for. They were threatened. They feared for their safety, and he used the society’s grooming services,” Jeanne Oswald, the Harris County District Attorney’s attorney, said in court on Friday, KTRK-TV reports.

“He looked after not only the child, but also the people around the children in the most offensive way,” Oswald said.

Cohen was arrested earlier this month and charged with ongoing child sexual abuse and sexual abuse of a child under the age of 17, reports KXXV.

KTRK reported that eight new charges were brought against him on Friday.

In addition, six of the nine boys, aged 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 19, were removed from Cohen’s home, according to Child Protective Services, KXXV reports.

The unnamed 17-year-old, who said he was Cohen’s son, called the podcast earlier this month and claimed that he and some of his brothers had been abused, using the term “rape,” according to court documents.

The teenager said the abuse started when he first came to the house he lived in at the age of 11.

The caller said that Child Protective Services investigated the house eight times but did nothing.

The caller said, “Every time the CPS participates, [Cohen] bribes or intimidates him and his brother,” the documents say.

He noted that one brother ran away and was returned, and at that time they all spoke out against the brother in an interview with the Children’s Evaluation Center.

KXXV reported that Cohen was released on bail after being charged with indecency with a child against an international exchange student from Spain who lived in the house.

The teenager told investigators that “everyone [Cohen] is a fake,” the documents say.

According to the documents, Cohen uses his wheelchair “when people come or when he is in public.”

On his website, Cohen stated, “I am a single parent who has adopted nine wonderful children. Ages 22,20,19,18,16,15,14,10 and 8!!!! (wow, try saying it in one breath lol).”

“In our house, it really is never boring. And I love it! I believe that every moment, good or bad, should be appreciated. We definitely face challenges on a daily basis. And in the end, we are grateful to each of them. We all realized that challenges are nothing but learning experiences.”
