Shake Shack and Chipotle to open first locations in Bed-Stuy

There goes the aroma.

Two upscale fast food chains will soon be popping up in downtown Brooklyn.

The bell tolls for you, Bedford-Stuyvesant’s ongoing rental deals: Shake Shack and Chipotle locations are due to open within the borough.

The international burrito chain has opened a store at 1190 Fulton St., according to Eater, with an opening date set for Jan. 31, according to Google Maps. According to the website, the windows of the commercial space on the ground floor have recently been adorned with Chipotle signs, and Shake Shack, who also has a space in the same building, is not far behind as the green burger logo and neon lettering are somewhat hidden but now visible. .

The Chipotle store will be open from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, according to the new location’s landing page. Shake Shack, despite not having a homepage, has already received a five-star review on Google from someone who “looks forward to discovering them”.

The eight-story multifunctional building, which will be based on two restaurants, has long been under development. The 30-unit building has a glass and brick façade that is distinctly modern and austere compared to the older row houses that populate the rest of the block.

Despite one enthusiastic Shake Shack fan who went online early to express his happiness, not everyone is thrilled at the prospect of chains in Nabe.

“This is not good for the neighborhood,” local resident Sabrina Perso told Patch. “It will hurt small restaurants in the area that have contributed to the development of the area for years.”

Perso fears this is the beginning of the end for many local Bed-Stuy eateries. “We have seen what the big retailers and restaurants have done to Harlem. We don’t want to be next,” she said.
