‘Senseless’: Family in mourning after beloved Lewisville pawnshop owner killed in apparent robbery

Police continue to search for three suspects in connection with the murder.

LEWISVILLE, Texas. A family mourns after a beloved pawnshop owner was fatally shot at his Lewisville store during a robbery on Tuesday.

A search is underway for three suspects in the murder.

Police said the incident took place around 9:30 a.m. at a Lewisville pawnshop at 962 S. Mill Street.

According to police, three suspects jumped out of a Ford Escape SUV, broke into the store and confronted the owner. Family members identified the owner as Daniel White, 54.

According to police, White was shot by one of the suspects. The three suspects fled the scene in an SUV. They are wanted for capital murder as the shooting occurred during a robbery, police said.

White’s family pleads with the public for help.

“It was a senseless, heartbreaking crime. We want to ask the public if you know or have any information, please come forward,” said Misha Gonzalez, the victim’s sister-in-law.

White has been working in a pawnshop since he was 16 years old.

“His wife is left to pick up the pieces,” Gonzalez said.

Joe Gonzalez, Daniel’s father-in-law, is heartbroken. He explained to the WFAA how White was shot.

“[White] was in the process of ejecting the weapon, and then three people came up to him and confronted him, ”said Joe Gonzalez.

“He was just shot. Coolly. He stood his ground and they didn’t take anything,” said the father-in-law.

Witnesses close to the investigation said they saw the three suspects return to the top spot in the store. They were driving a red or maroon 2008-2012 Ford Escape. The police are working with the ATF and Homeland Security for any leads.

As the investigation continues, Joe Gonzalez said his daughter was crushed.

“They were inseparable. Where one went, the other went,” Joe Gonzalez said.

But on Tuesday she was not at work to help him. Now the family has memories.

“You took a life for nothing. He was more than a son-in-law. He was like my son,” Joe Gonzalez said of the suspects.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call the Lewisville Police Department hotline at 972-219-8477. Tipsters can also remain anonymous and send text messages by texting “TipLPD” to 847411. Denton County crime fighters can also take advice through their P3 Tips website and phone app.

The family has set up an online fundraising campaign to help pay for funeral expenses.
