School superintendent arrested on drug possession charges in St. Lucie County

FORT PIERCE, Florida. The sheriff’s office said Friday that a school superintendent arrested on drug possession charges in St. Lucie County may have been selling drugs on campus.

Gary Henderson, 19, from Port St. Lucie, was working as a caretaker at the Dale Cussens Educational Complex in Fort Pierce at the time of his Thursday night arrest.

Sheriff Ken Mascara said Henderson is being charged with drug possession on campus.

“School Resource Deputies received information Thursday that suggests Henderson may have been selling drugs on the school campus,” Muscar said in a statement. “After interrogating Henderson, the police found MDMA, LSD and Xanax in him.”

Mascara said the allegations that led to the arrest are still under investigation.

“We continue to work diligently with St. Lucie Public Schools and neighboring law enforcement agencies to provide a safe learning environment for our children,” Mascara said. “It is important for parents to talk to their children not only about the dangers of drug use, but also about the consequences. Our job is to protect students from predators on and off campus.”

Henderson was released from the St. Lucie County Jail on $9,000 bail.
