Stanley Edwards, 63, from Salinas, was arrested on Friday, January 27 after their investigation found he was the main culprit in the fires. He was imprisoned in the Monterey County Jail on charges of arson.

Police said the first incident took place last Thursday evening at around 5:19 pm around Figueroa and East Franklin streets. Roberts allegedly set fire to the garbage can. The fire damaged a garbage can and a wall of a neighboring house.

Just 12 hours later, on Friday morning, police said that another fire broke out in the 1100 block of Del Monte Avenue around 5:48 am. According to officers, the car and the fence caught fire. The blaze damaged a total of two cars and a nearby fence.

Police said they had to respond to another fire after just 20 minutes. Police said Edwards is believed to have set fire to another trash can in the 400 block of Webster Street. The latest fire only damaged a dumpster in the area.

The Monterey Fire Department extinguished all three fires before they caused any property or structural damage.
