Runners flood downtown during the 2023 Austin Marathon

One of the biggest marathons in the country is back.

Runners from all over the world have come specifically to take part in the 2023 Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, such as Sumedhj and Calvin who have come all the way from Canada to run the streets of downtown Austin.

“I’m from Vancouver and I did this as preparation for my full marathon in Chicago,” Sumage says.

From early morning, the streets were filled with people rooting for the runners.

“We are very proud of them and everyone who came today we know that it is very difficult, we have run two marathons ourselves, so we wanted to pay back those who made us laugh while we suffered,” says Paige Mitentel, who walked out support your friends.

“Austin was great, the energy was really good, we loved the energy and loved the whole run, it was great to be here,” say Sumage and Calvin.

Those words of encouragement helped runners like Sarah, who had never run a marathon before.

“It was great, it was fantastic, there were a lot of climbs, it was a bit difficult, but in general there were a lot of fans at each difficult stage, so it was really nice,” says Sarah, who ran the half marathon.

For some people, running this marathon is more than just crossing the finish line and getting a medal.

“It’s important to stay healthy and keep your mindset, and it’s a lot of fun here in Austin to run with communities from all over the country,” says runner Dan Harty.

And once the race is over, all Sumage and Calvin can think about

“Drink beer, yes, be sure to drink beer,” say Sumej and Calvin.
