On Wednesday, several vehicles were stuck in flood water on I-30 service roads near FM 1565.

ROYS CITY, Texas. The Royce City Police Department is investigating a fatal incident Wednesday morning after a high water swept away a vehicle stuck on an I-30 service road near FM 1565 in Hunt County.

Police responded to the incident around 11 a.m. Wednesday along with the Royce City Fire Department, the Union Valley Fire Department and the Cash Fire Department after hearing reports of several vehicles stuck in high water on service roads, police said.

Two witnesses told police they saw a silver SUV swept off the roadway on the northern service road and plunged into a section of Brushy Creek under I-30, police said.

The vehicle and driver could not be located due to the dangerous speed of the water that flooded the area at the time, police said.

On Thursday, police said a water rescue team from the fire department found the sunken car 15 to 20 feet underwater, and a team of divers from Wylie’s fire department helped pull the car out of the water.

According to police, no one was in the car when it was found. Police found an elderly man dead further along the creek’s bank.

The man’s identity is not released until a positive ID is obtained.

Royce City Police are still investigating the case.
