Round Rock opens new downtown public library

Round Rock has a new state-of-the-art public library downtown.

The City held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with real estate developer Hensel Phelps at the library at 200 East Liberty Avenue on Saturday, January 28, to celebrate the grand opening. The new library is just a block north of the old library in the East Main and Sheppard area.

The new 66,000-square-foot, three-story building features a grand staircase, built-in movie screen, and public art, as well as a four-story, 289-space garage, an entrance light designed and installed by Nathan Warner. a world-renowned local lighting artist, an energy efficient daylight harvesting system and an outdoor playground with lawn and maze.

The library also has quiet work areas on the third floor, classrooms on the first floor, outdoor areas on each level, study rooms on the second and third floors, special children’s story rooms, early learning areas, and study and study spaces. .

According to Hensel Phelps, the project launched in June 2021 and was completed two months ahead of schedule in October 2022. The developer says the facility was built to “meet the needs of people of all ages” through a collaborative approach with the city and PGAL. .

Funding for the new library came from a voter-approved GO Bond election in 2013, which totaled $123.6 million for capital projects and $23.2 million for library space.
