Round Rock ISD Announces Revised School Year Schedule for 2023-2024

In an effort to optimize learning opportunities for students, Round Rock ISD has implemented a slight adjustment to the start times for all elementary, middle, and high schools. Effective August 15, the school day will commence five minutes earlier than in the previous academic year, a move designed to enhance instructional time and foster academic excellence.

The revised instructional schedule for each school level is as follows: Elementary School will now begin at 7:35 a.m. and conclude at 2:55 p.m. Middle School will commence at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:35 p.m. High School students will start their day at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 4:20 p.m. Additionally, Educational Diagnostician and Adaptive Education Services Programs (EDAEP) will operate from 7:10 a.m. to 2:25 p.m., while the Round Rock Opportunity Center (RROC) will function between the hours of 7:25 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. The GOALS Learning Center will now operate from 8:35 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.

However, it is important to note that the start times for Pear and Apple Sessions, VISTA, Together We Can (TWC), Child Development Center (CDC), and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) will remain unchanged. This decision takes into consideration the unique nature and requirements of these specific programs within the district.

For parents and students who rely on school transportation, it is advised that they consult the updated bus route information for the forthcoming 2023-2024 school year. Starting August 11, this information will be available on SMART Tag and the Transportation website, enabling individuals to plan their journeys accordingly. It is worth mentioning that these routes may be subject to modification until August 14, so regular checks are recommended to stay up to date with any changes.

These changes to the instructional schedule were approved by the Board of Trustees following a calendar amendment. By adding an additional five minutes to each school day, a total of four instructional days’ worth of extra minutes will be accumulated over the academic year. This proactive approach will provide a buffer to mitigate unforeseen disruptions caused by school closings due to inclement weather conditions. In essence, the banked four days will eliminate the necessity to compensate for lost instructional time or extend the academic calendar.

Round Rock ISD continues to prioritize the educational experience of its students and remains committed to providing them with the best possible learning environment. By fine-tuning the start times and maximizing instructional minutes, the district aims to empower its students to excel academically and thrive in their educational journey.
