Rockwall appoints Acting Police Chief Ed Fowler as Chief of Police

ROCKWALL, TX (CBSDFW.COM) Rockwall is officially getting a new police chief, officials announced Thursday.

On February 16, 2023, Rockwall City Manager Mary Smith announced that Ed Fowler had officially been named Chief of the Rockwall Police Department.

Chief Fowler is no stranger to the area. He last served as interim chief after former chief Max Gueron stepped down from that position in August, but his actual career in the department began 33 years ago.

After serving in the US Marine Corps during the Gulf War, Chief Fowler returned to his hometown in 1990 and steadily rose through the ranks. During his tenure, he has held various leadership positions, including assistant chief of police from 2020 until his promotion to interim chief in 2022.

In addition to military and police service, Chief Fowler received a Bachelor of Business Administration from East Texas State University and an MBA from Texas A&M Commerce. He is a Certified Master in Peacekeeping and graduated from the FBI National Academy and the Police Chiefs Research Forum.

The new leader is also known in the community. Chief Fowler and his wife Julie have been married for 19 years and have three children. He was Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 989 for many years.
