Representative Greg Steube left the hospital after falling down the stairs at a Sarasota home.

SARASOTA, Fla. — Sarasota Republican Congressman Greg Steube said Saturday that he was discharged from Sarasota Memorial Hospital after falling 25 feet down a flight of stairs.

“All praise and glory to God,” Steube tweeted. “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the entire Sarasota Memorial Hospital team for the excellent treatment I received.”

Steube said his office will provide an update next week on how his recovery will affect his return to Washington.

The Steube team first shared news of the accident on Wednesday evening when they asked for prayers from the community. They said the congressman was cutting tree limbs at his Sarasota home when he fell.

On Thursday, his team reported that Steube spent the night in intensive care due to serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Steube currently serves Florida’s 17th district after defeating Democratic opponent Andrea Doria Calais in the 2022 midterms. District 17 includes Sarasota and Charlotte counties and parts of Lee County.
