Report – Democrats continue to push for reparations and national apologies for slavery that ‘infects current society’
Democrats in several houses of representatives are once again pushing for reparations and a national apology for slavery, according to Fox News.
The group has reintroduced legislation to create a commission to deal with the issue of slavery in America, and one Democrat hopes the nation can resolve the issue, the publication continued Thursday:
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, of Texas, and 52 Democrats in the House of Representatives proposed legislation this week to support the issue. Her legislation, which was considered by the House Judiciary Committee in the last Congress when Democrats were in power, is unlikely to pass in the Republican-led 118th Congress.

“While some have tried to divert attention from these conversations by focusing on individual monetary compensation, the real issue is whether and how this nation can deal with the legacy of slavery that still infects today’s society,” she said. “Through legislation, resolutions, news and litigation, we are getting closer to taking more steps towards redress.”
Meanwhile, social media users expressed their opinion on the matter, one person letter“Excuse me, is there anyone in this country who actually had a slave? I never did and never planned to.”
“What is the right way to take money from people who have never had slaves and give it to people who have never been slaves?” Other interrogated.
Jackson Lee said monetary compensation should be part of the discussion, arguing that black citizens are still feeling the economic impact of slavery.
However, the bill does not include pay recommendations or a national apology, but places those decisions on the shoulders of the Commission to Study and Develop Reparations for African Americans, Fox said in a statement.
Meanwhile, actor and comedian Faizon Love believes the reparation money the state of California plans to distribute to its black citizens will end up wasted, Breitbart News reported in December.
He criticized the idea of making amends during an interview, stating “Fuck that. It’s another trick, man, you know why? Because that money will go back to the Cadillac and back to the bastards. [Mercedes] Benz.
The California committee is looking into the idea of reparations, which could mean $200,000 in reparations to be given to every person deemed to be a descendant of African-American slaves.
“The state is considering damages as of 2020, pursuant to legislation signed that year by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D),” the report said.
According to Breitbart News, the chairman of the state’s Reparations Task Force recently said black residents should receive $1 million each and black homeless people should be first in line.
