Rep. Greg Steube’s 25-foot fall seen by a delivery driver calling for help: 911 audio

A delivery driver witnessed Rep. Greg Steube, D-Fla., fall 25 feet down the stairs at his home and call 911, according to an audio recording of the call obtained by Fox 13 Tampa Bay.

During a nearly 13-minute emergency call, driver Darrell Woody reported that Steube was awake but “bruised” with multiple injuries to his body, including his arm and back.

Steube was reportedly chopping tree limbs on his Sarasota property after the branch struck him up the stairs, sending him 25 feet to the ground. Woody, who is also the local representative for Rep. Vern Buchanan, Florida, told the dispatcher that he saw the fall.

The congressman is expected to recover, but his team said he spent the night in intensive care on Wednesday night with “several serious injuries” that were not life-threatening. He was transferred from intensive care on Thursday afternoon.

“We give all the glory to God for his healing. We will have something to say when details about the timing of his recovery become clear, ”Stoube’s Twitter account said in an update.

Woody said he went to Steube’s house to congratulate him on his recent election victory, but instead saw a fall. He told the dispatcher that he didn’t think anyone else was home because only the congressman’s dogs came to the door.

At various times during the call, Steube can be heard asking what happened in the background. Woody told the dispatcher that Stübe seemed “dazed”.

He remained in touch with the dispatcher until the first responders arrived.
