Initially, the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation was unable to confirm that the remains belonged to Athena.

Court documents allege that the child was beaten to death on Christmas Day.

Athena’s guardian, Alicia Adams, admitted to investigators on Jan. 12 that her husband, Yvonne Adams, beat the baby around midnight on Dec. 25 and held her hands until she stopped moving, court documents say.

Alicia Adams provided more details about the attack, saying that he punched Athena three times in the chest and then left the house at around 1 a.m., the documents say.

But after a while he returned, allegedly telling his wife that, according to the documents, he buried Athena against the fence near their old house in Rush Springs.

Adams was charged with child abuse and neglect for failing to protect Athena from her husband. He faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of child neglect.

Due to a non-disclosure order filed in the Caddo County District Court, OSBI did not release further information on the case.
