Randy Jones is charged with the fatal murder of NYPD cop Adid Fayaz.

Authorities said a Harlem citizen charged with the fatal murder of NYPD officer Adid Fayaz was charged with murder on Tuesday, hours after the police officer was pronounced dead in a hospital.

Randy “Popper” Jones, 38, allegedly shot the 26-year-old father of two in the head during a botched robbery in East New York on Saturday night after Fayaz and his brother-in-law agreed to buy a Honda Pilot on Facebook. Market, police and sources said. The couple had $24,000 in cash at the time.

Jones lured the couple into a dark alley and allegedly “almost immediately” opened fire, hitting Fayaz once in the temple. The officer’s brother-in-law then pulled a pistol from Fayaz’s holster and returned fire as Jones fled.

Jones remained on the run until police tracked him to a Rockland County hotel on Monday, where they took him into custody using Fayaz’s handcuffs.

On Tuesday, Jones was charged with robbery and murder.

On Sunday, police found the getaway car — a black BMW SUV registered to Jones’ mother — at 129th Street and Park Avenue in Harlem and confiscated it. Detectives inspected the car at the 75th precinct in Brooklyn on Monday.

On Tuesday, police identified Jones as the alleged shooter and charged him with robbery and murder.

Jones, handcuffed and wearing a white Tyvek suit, was escorted out of the 75th Precinct on Tuesday evening in front of hundreds of police officers, many of whom were from the 66th Precinct, where Fayaz served.

One woman standing outside the precinct with two others shouted, “We love you, Randy!” accused of murder.

“I love you too,” Jones said back.

Another person in the crowd yelled, “Cop killer!”

Investigators believe Jones may be behind a similar robbery last month. In this case, the scammer ambushed another person at a nearby address on January 13, again under the pretense of selling a car through the Facebook Marketplace, only to draw a gun and demand the victim’s money, the sources said. During this robbery, the thief made off with $18,000.

Fayaz, a top five-year veteran in New York, was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday after being on life support after the shooting, the source said.

Hundreds of police officers, including senior NYPD officials, lined the streets outside the hospital as Officer Fayaz’s body was taken by ambulance to the city’s medical examiner’s office.

Police Benevolent Association president Patrick Lynch said Fayaz’s family was at his bedside when he was taken off life support.

“This is a difficult day. You see cops standing shoulder to shoulder with tears in their eyes,” Lynch said.

“He was a policeman who loved his job. Since he was a young man, he wanted to become not just a police officer, but a New York City police officer. He was brutally shot on the streets of Brooklyn.”
