Quinton Tellis, who burned Jessica Chambers alive, will not stand trial

Quinton Tellis was charged with the death of Jessica Chambers in February 2016. He’s been breaking and entering, drug possession and evading the law. In 2015, he was arrested for the murder of Mein-Chen Xiao, whose credit cards he used after her death.

Jessica Chambers Death

At 8:10 pm on December 6, 2014, Jessica Chambers, then 19 years old, was found burning next to her burning car.

Her whole body was on fire. She was doused with a flammable liquid and poured down her nose and throat. She died at dawn the next day as a result of her wounds.

After the incident, Jessica’s car keys were found on the side of the road near the crime scene. Authorities looked at her phone to piece together where she was on the day of the murder.

Apparently she had spent the morning in the company of two friends, as determined by the authorities. Soon after, she went to her mom’s house in Lisa to take a nap. After receiving a message later that day, she decided to go.

She told Lisa that after eating and washing the car, she was leaving. She drove to a gas station 1.5 miles from where her body was found around 5:30 p.m. At that moment, she was last seen alive.

Using her phone’s location services, we can see that she left Cortland for nearby Batesville around 6:00 p.m., but returned there around 6:30 p.m. Why she was in Batesville remains a mystery. She called Lisa about fifteen minutes later, when she, too, noticed an eerie silence. She left the house at 19:30 and drove to the place where she would be found in half an hour.

The case is still unsolved as authorities have not found the suspects.

Quinton Tellis will not stand trial in Jessica Chambers’ death

Jessica Chambers Death

Louisiana’s case against Quinton Tellis, who was tried twice for the murder of Jessica Chambers in 2014, has been dismissed. Tellis is currently behind bars in Mississippi for burglary.

Chambers’ trial ended in a mistrial

In both 2017 and 2018, jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. As the House’s second trial ended in a mistrial, Tellis was extradited back to Louisiana to face charges related to the stabbing of Ming-Chen Xiao in 2015. In 2016, Tellis admitted to fraudulently using Xiao’s debit card, for which she received a 10-year sentence for repeat offences.

On the evening of December 6, 2014, 19-year-old Chambers was found walking along the side of a completely burned road. The Memphis hospital where she was staying became the site of her death the next day.

Death penalty charges against Xiao were dropped

After learning that the state of Mississippi wanted Tellis to serve a five-year sentence for crimes related to Chambers’ death, Judge Larry Jefferson of the Fourth Judicial District Court dropped the indictment against Tellis in early November.

The tweet below reveals that “Quinton Tellis is already serving a prison sentence for burglary”:

Following his conviction in Mississippi, Tellis’ fate would be decided by the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
