Prosper ISD School Board Elects New President Following Arrest and Resignation of Andrew Wilborn

PROSPER, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – On Tuesday evening, the Prosper ISD School Board met for the first time since School Board President Andrew Wilborn stepped down.

This happened last month after arrested and charged with indecent behavior with a child.

The incident did not involve Prosper ISD students, but as you can imagine, it raises questions about district leadership.

When Prosper ISD parent James Pope learned that board president Andrew Wilborn had been arrested and charged with indecent behavior with a child: “It was heartbreaking. It knocked all the air out of me. I mean, I spoke to a man, the president, the night before. and then wake up the next day, and then hear that he was arrested. It was a shock. In all senses”.

Police say Wilborn inappropriately touched the 16-year-old in April last year while he was the executive pastor of Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. Prosper ISD said they were not aware of the charges prior to his arrest.

“Our community is struggling on many different fronts and I see it differently,” said one parent.

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, parents also expressed their heartache over the Prosper ISD bus driver accused of sexually abusing two sisters last year and the recent arrest of two high school students for the murder of a 19-year-old from Little Elm.

“Every incident that happens here in Prosper just sheds light on everything,” Pope said.

Pope and the other parents told the school board they wanted better leadership.

Some of them urged the school board to hold a snap election to replace Wilborn.

“Based on previous history, we do not trust you to nominate another person because the one you nominated was just arrested,” another parent said.

“If you make an appointment, you are making a mistake, and you guys always have to be right, like the rest of us,” said one parent.

On Tuesday evening, the school board unanimously elected Debra Smith as board president and Kelly Cavender as vice president.

There will be an election for the school board in May, and the ballot papers will list places 2 and 5.
