President Biden and the first lady’s restaurant order provoked a strong reaction

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden raised their eyebrows when they reportedly ordered the same dish at a chic D.C. restaurant in February.

The Bidens went to Red Hen Italian Restaurant in Bloomingdale. The couple ordered two plates of the restaurant’s signature rigatoni, along with buttered toast, chicory salad, and several glasses of Barbera wine.

A dish of rigatoni made with red sauce, fennel sausage stew and pecorino romano is reportedly popular at the restaurant. But social media users were still puzzled that the Bidens ordered the same food.

“Honestly, I’ve never heard of a couple, married or not, ordering EXACTLY the same thing at a restaurant.” — said one of the users of Twitter.

“I would definitely look at my husband if he ordered the same as me, because obviously we need to try as many as possible from the menu!” This was reported by Washington editor Jessica Seedman.

“It’s stupid to get the same thing as the person you’re dining with,” DC resident Hannah Madden told The Washington Post. “The point of going out to eat is to try as many things as possible.”

“At first I thought it was funny that everyone was so confused about this,” Madden said. “And then I realized, ‘Oh wait, I’m confused about this!’

Red Hen owner Michael Friedman said he was amused by the online debate about the couple ordering pasta.

“I’m honored to have a presidential visit, but it’s funny that this is what came out of it,” Friedman said. “It’s a fascinating theme that people have chosen to follow, and I just really enjoy banter.”

The owner also confirmed that rigatoni is very popular: the restaurant sells 50 to 70 orders every night.
