Powerball draw: $2 million lottery ticket sold in Houston

It may not be $754 million, but the Texan is $2 million richer this morning after yesterday’s Powerball draw.

A ticket sold in Houston matches all 5 white balls, only the Powerball is missing, and doubles the prize by selecting the Power Play option.

The winning numbers for the Monday night draw were 5, 11, 22, 23, 69 with Powerball 7.

One Washington ticket matched all 6 numbers, bringing home a $754 million prize.

The lottery website shows that the jackpot for Thursday’s next draw has dropped to $20 million.

The Monday night win was the first Powerball jackpot since November 19, 2022. This series of no-wins allowed the prize to rise further and further until it became the ninth largest in US history.

Higher interest rates allowed for higher annuity payments compared to earlier jackpots when rates were lower. Most winners prefer an immediate cash prize.

The game’s low odds of 1 in 292.2 million are meant to win bigger prizes that will attract more players. This strategy has definitely worked lately, with someone from Maine winning a $1.35 billion Mega Millions prize in January and a player from California hitting a record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot last November. No one claimed any of these prizes.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
