Pothole season comes earlier when the ice has thawed

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Official Pothole Month in Fort Worth City four months left. Regardless, given the icy weather this past week, the city is sending its Street Ops team to assess the current pothole situation.

“Following this type of weather event, Street Ops will conduct a pothole review during which we will provide additional resources to address immediate needs, resulting in more than 300 potholes per day being filled,” said Juan Cadena, Operations Director, Transportation and Transportation. Department of Public Works.

These potholes or massive ruts in the road occur for a variety of reasons, including road wear, vehicle weight, and weather conditions. In addition, there are options for what is considered a pothole and what is not. A pothole is considered a pocket no larger than 3 feet in diameter. Anything larger than 3 feet should be reported as “street repair” or “foundation failure”.

According to Cadena, crews typically close 80 to 100 potholes a day.

“Older city areas with old paved roads tend to be more problematic, but this will be a citywide effort.”
