Police say a “potential explosive device” was found this morning in a garage bought in Kempner, which is in Lampasas County.

Highway 190 between Kempner’s Brick Kiln and Dollar General is closed until further notice while police investigate.

Investigators say that just after 8 a.m., a citizen contacted Police Chief Eddie Rodriguez after they bought a box of miscellaneous items at a garage sale and became interested in one of them.

Chief Rodriguez identified it as a “potentially explosive device”.

Several agencies are on the scene, including the fire department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, and Fort Hood explosive ordnance disposal teams.

Officials say you should avoid the area until the situation is resolved.
