Police say an Arlington man is killed by a suspected robber as he drives into his driveway.

When the police arrived at the house, they found the wounded, 36-year-old man unconscious in the SUV. According to police, the man died at the scene.

ARLINGTON, Texas. A man from Arlington was fatally shot when he drove into a driveway where a burglary suspect was hiding, police said.

The shooting was reported around 5:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of Prentice Street, near South Collins Street and Interstate 20.

When officers arrived at the house, they found an injured, 36-year-old man, who the family identified as Ali Ismail, who was unresponsive in the SUV. According to police, Ismail died at the scene.

When detectives were investigating the shooting, they learned that the two suspects were trying to break into cars parked next door when Ismail drove up to his house.

One of the suspects tried to hide in Ismail’s entrance. When Ismail pulled up to the driveway, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several shots at him, killing him, police said.

The suspects then fled the area east along Prentice Street.

On Tuesday, investigators placed about a dozen yellow pieces of evidence on the roadway.

“I don’t know that the victim wasn’t the target. I know that witnesses saw people in the neighborhood tugging at the doorknobs,” said the Arlington police sergeant. Courtney White.

Relatives and friends told the WFAA that Ismail moved to Arlington in 2008 and became the owner of the trucking company Panda Logistics, LLC. He has six children and one more on the way, the family told the WFAA.

“That’s sad, man. The man is a hardworking guy. Had six children. I do not know what to tell you. I do not know what to tell you. This is wrong,” Mustafa “Kiko” Yassin, a family member, said.

He said Ismail WFAA’s oldest child is 13 and said he spoke to Ismail on Monday evening.

“Everything seemed normal. I was hoping to see him today,” Yasin said. “We don’t know what happened. But we’d like to get answers.”

Yassin and Ismail are members of the Somali community in North Texas.

“Our community is sad to go through this. We have never had such a situation,” said community leader Osman Salat. “We don’t know what to do.”

Salat told WFAA that the Somali community is rallying around the victim’s pregnant wife.

“We really can’t put into words what’s going on in her head. She was the first one to come out and see him dead in the car. She is sad. She’s stunned,” Salad said.

No one has been arrested and the police are still trying to identify the suspects.

“The suspects are two men,” the sergeant said. White said. “We don’t really know the motives behind this heinous crime.”

Late last week, the Arlington Police Department posted a message on Facebook asking the public to help find suspects wanted in connection with multiple vehicle robberies in Arlington that also resulted in a man being shot dead.

“Not especially in this area, but just in the city of Arlington,” White said, referring to the Facebook post following Ismali’s death.

Anyone with information about Isamali’s shooting is asked to call a police detective at 817-459-5325. Tipsters can also provide anonymous information by calling the Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.
