Police: Motorcyclist dies in Rome after driver veered off road
Police said the Samaritan stopped to help the victim and gave the dispatcher a description of the suspicious vehicle.
ROME, Texas. Rome police are looking for a witness and person of interest in a fatal incident on U.S. Highway 287 on Friday morning.
According to their social media post, officers were called around 7:15 a.m. in connection with an accident on a highway between Pioneer Parkway and Highway 114.
The department said the motorcyclist, who was identified as 55-year-old Jerry Wayne Newton of Decatur, was run off the road by a pickup truck driver pulling a trailer. He was taken to a Fort Worth hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said another truck driver stopped to help Newton immediately after the incident.
Samaritan described the suspicious vehicle as a dark or silver pickup truck with a white trailer. The bottom of the trailer was orange and the water tank was covered with a black tarp.
The suspect vehicle was followed by a similar truck and trailer, and they may have been driving together.

The Roma Police Department, Texas DPS, and Texas Rangers are still investigating.
