Police horse named Walker donated to DPD in honor of deceased officer

The family of a Dallas police officer who died in the line of duty honored him with a large donation.

Monday marked two years since Officer Mitchell Penton was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver at the scene of another accident.

Penton’s parents gave the Dallas Police Department a new police horse in his honor.

The horse was named Walker after Officer Penton’s favorite television show, Walker, Texas Ranger.

Walker officially took up his duties in the mounted division of the DPD.

Philip Mabry, the man charged with drunken manslaughter for the accident that killed Penton, is still awaiting trial.
