Police find suspected hit-and-run driver and vehicle in West Palm Beach

Police in West Palm Beach announced on Thursday that they have made progress in the investigation of a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a woman over the weekend. The driver responsible for striking and killing Penelope Lynn Kenyon, 55, has been located, according to statements made by West Palm Beach police spokesman Mike Jachles.

Based on a tip received, investigators were led to a local auto body shop in the West Palm Beach area, where they discovered the black Cadillac ATS responsible for the fatal collision. The vehicle was found with front-end damage and was missing the passenger’s side view mirror. The police have stated that the staff at the body shop is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Furthermore, the authorities have identified and interviewed the driver, a 31-year-old man from Palm Beach County. However, they have not yet disclosed his name. The police have also indicated that no charges have been filed at this point, pending the receipt of DNA evidence results.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. Kenyon, accompanied by her stepbrother, was crossing Belvedere Road in the 1500 block, just west of Interstate 95, when a westbound car struck her at 2:41 a.m. Kenyon was critically injured and underwent surgery at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away at 5:33 a.m. Her stepbrother, fortunately, escaped unharmed.

According to the police, Kenyon and her stepbrother were on their way from a Wawa convenience store to a nearby IHOP restaurant when the tragic accident occurred. After meticulously examining the scene and gathering evidence, investigators were able to determine that the car involved in the hit-and-run was a black Cadillac ATS or CT4 with damage to the front right corner and a missing passenger side mirror.

The West Palm Beach police have emphasized that this is an active case and have chosen not to release the name of the driver or the name of the body shop involved at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and the police await the results of the DNA evidence before proceeding with any charges.
