Pilot parachuted out of small plane before crash in Monterey County

The pilot of a small plane managed to parachute out before crashing into a swamp in Monterey County on Sunday afternoon, according to the FAA.

The FAA said a single-engine Cassutt M11 crashed at approximately 3:45 p.m. in Castroville, a community northwest of Salinas.

According to the FAA, the pilot was the only person on the plane. Their condition was not immediately known.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
